As I look over my Social Media posts, it seems the story of the week has to do with Gayle King\u2019s controversial interview of Lisa Leslie regarding the legacy of Kobe Bryant.<\/p>\n

This topic is so controversial, I will not go into the details here.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure many of you have heard or seen the interview by now.\u00a0 In this forum, I do not labor to dwell on negative news, but rather, to use our current events to encourage and educate us as Church Leader\u2019s Wives.<\/p>\n

This event reminds me of a poem written by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, a pioneering civil rights leader and a past president of Morehouse College.\u00a0 Two titles have been given to this poem, \"God's Minute\" and \"Just a Minute.\"\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure which one is correct, but both titles are fitting.<\/p>\n

\u00a0I only have a minute.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sixty seconds in it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Forced upon me, I did not choose it,<\/em><\/p>\n

But I know that I must use it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Give account if I abuse it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Suffer, if I lose it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Only a tiny little minute,<\/em><\/p>\n

But eternity is in it.<\/em><\/p>\n

How many times have we seen the devastating effect of words on the lives of men, women, and children?\u00a0 Too many to count.<\/p>\n

In the Church, we, as wives, can be so overwhelmed, so distracted, that in the heat of the moment, we may speak a word that has unintentional consequences. \u201cI\u2019m sorry,\u201d is the right thing to say, but the effect takes longer than a minute to live down.<\/p>\n

Scripture is our weapon against the wiles of the devil.\u00a0 I offer you three\u00a0 passages here, but please don't be limited.\u00a0 May we search God's Word and saturate our tongues in His truth so that we live in peace, without regrets.<\/p>\n

Ephesians 4:29<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 <\/em>Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.<\/p>\n

Philippians 4:8 \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.<\/p>\n

1 Corinthians 13:1 \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.<\/p>\n

Your words, your choice, your legacy, your minute.\u00a0 How will you spend it?<\/p>\n
